Ear Massage Therapy Helps Reduce Stress in the Body

Stress is, unfortunately, a big part of our daily experience. There are 101 reasons why people experience stress, and while there are really no ways to avoid stressful situations, there are ancient and natural techniques that help. It has been proven over the ages that ear reflexology or ‘ear massage’ therapy helps reduce stress in the body.

There are many different things you can do to learn how to deal with stress, including expressing the feelings that are causing the stress, changing your attitude in regards to stressful situations that are occurring in your life, and changing unhealthy lifestyle habits. But what can one do when stress has already accumulated in the body causing feelings of anxiety or even pain in parts of the body? This is where ear reflexology (ear massage) can play a part.

Our body has certain anti-stress points that can be massaged to alleviate stress that is causing discomfort and ‘blocked energy’ in the body. One of those points is located in the center of the upper third part of the ear.

The ancient Chinese referred to this point as Shen Men or “The Gate of Heaven.” Shen Men is a anti-stress point that decreases stress, boosts energy flow, and strengthens the overall health of the body. This acupressure point also reduces inflammation and can relieve pain in almost every part of the body.

The Technique:

  • Using a cotton bud, press this point and gently massage it. Breathe deeply.
  • Then listen to your body carefully.
  • Keep breathing deeply.
  • When you inhale look to the left, and on the exhale look to the right.
  • You will feel how your body calms down.

If you feel a little tenderness in that area while massaging, that is an indication that the energy in that particular body system connected to the Shen Men acupressure point is out of balance or experiencing disharmony.

You can also use your fingers throughout the day to gently massage that area creating more release of blocked energy in the body, or use it any time you feel stressed!
